It is not uncommon for our assignments to start only when an existing project is already faltering. We are justifiably proud of the fact that several of our most successful achievements started after a client's in-house project was declared "broken".

The Project Recovery service

A typical Project Recovery will start with an honest and objective assessment, or Project Healthcheck, of the project's current state, the earned value of any work already completed, and a re-evaluation of inter-dependencies with other projects and/or external contracts. A frank and harsh risk assessment would be undertaken to help avoid the possibility of failure for the same reasons as with the project presently.

This would be followed by a careful review of the Business Case with stakeholders and governance authorities to ensure that the anticipated benefits would still be available to the business, even after a revised schedule and costing have been formulated.

Only when it has been confirmed that there is still a clear benefit to be realised from the project's continuance would a high-level re-plan be undertaken to produce a revised scope, schedule, costing and risk assessment.

Subject to stakeholder approval, a staged delivery plan would be implemented, with strict controls applied to ensure that progress was consistent with the revised plan's baseline. This would be accompanied by vigorous management of risks and issues, and tightly focussed reporting of progress, especially during the early phases of the project's recovery.
